Astronomers need to identify a supernova's type as early as possible from photometric light-curve data so surveys can decide which events merit follow-up.

Early classification determines which of many transient events receive scarce telescope follow-up time.

SCONE, a convolutional neural network classifier, performs six-way supernova typing from wavelength–time heatmaps built by Gaussian-process fitting of truncated simulated LSST light curves, with or without redshift.

75% overall accuracy at trigger date (60% without redshift); 89% accuracy 50 days after trigger (82% without redshift)

Demonstrated early supernova typing on simulated LSST data, enabling early filtering of transient candidates.

real but narrower advance

Early supernova typing determines which transient events receive scarce telescope follow-up; first CNN application to early-time photometric transient classification; no scale stated in abstract.

Basis: inferred. Judged from the source text, which gives no explicit scale. Stated scale: not stated in source. Method and limits.
